 DIRECTING WORK

Memphis

By: David Bryan & Joe DiPetro
| Town Hall Arts Center

Huey, a white man living in Memphis in the 1950's, becomes obsessed with the Rock n’ Roll sound of a group of black musicians, particularly that of Felicia, a singer ready for her big break. Huey makes it his mission to give the artists air time by becoming a radio DJ and defying the restrictions of the white controlled radio stations. As romance blooms between Huey and Felicia, so does the popularity and acceptance of the music.
This energizing musical depicting the unifying power of music is a story loosely based on real life DJ legend Dewey Phillips.

Dot

| Vintage Theatre

The holidays are always a wild family affair at the Shealy house. But this year, Dotty and her three grown children gather with more than exchanging presents on their minds. As Dotty struggles to hold on to her memory, her children must fight to balance care for their mother and care for themselves. This twisted and hilarious new play grapples unflinchingly with aging parents, midlife crises, and the heart of a West Philly neighborhood.

This show was Mykai's regional premiere in Colorado as a Director, as well as the play's regional premiere in Colorado.

Metaphor in Three Acts

By: Maria A. Judice
| Obsidian Theatre Festival

In this circular philosophical narrative, a group of strangers awake, confined in a room with no exits. The adage “what side are you on” boils to a breaking point when two people who look, sing, dance, and pray like each other have opposing viewpoints about the urgency of the situation. Ultimately, this play is about the struggle of sustained uprisings in a freedom movement. Click the photo for a video of this performance.
